Todos los proyectos en los que está o ha estado involucrado ANDY KERR no dejan indiferente a nadie. Comenzando con el embrión de NOMEANSNO llamado INFAMOUS SCIENTISTS, pasando por el par de discos transoceánicos llamados HISSANOL y ahora con TWO PIN DIN, siempre se ha mantenido al margen de modas y estilos haciendo lo que le viene en gana. Y es que ahora asociado con Wilf, Plum (Dog Faced Hermans), forman un monstruo bicéfalo de 2 guitarras y se acabó. Supongo que en las listas lo tendrán crudo, pero ya se han ganado un lugar en mi corazón. Conócelos un poco más en esta entrevista.

1.-¿Qué nos puedes contar de tu nuevo proyecto?

Andy: Two Pin Din son dos colegas tocando guitarras eléctricas y cantando sin una sección rítmica. Mayormente los martes.
Wilf: Realmente no es tan nuevo, lo llevamos haciendo 3 años o así.

2.-¿Por qué sólo 2 guitarras?¿tenéis pensado en un futuro incorporar más músicos?

Andy: La otra opción erao una banda completa o un dúo acústico. Wilf y yo optamos por el Plan C. De algún modo funciona el intento de hacer un arreglo de dos guitarras eléctricas bajo el formato de canción.
Wilf: Ambos pensamos que estaría bien hacer algo simple, y ser solo dos guitarras significa que podemos ensayar en casa utilizando pequeños amplificadores para no molestar a los vecinos, y no necesitamos usar una furgoneta para transportar baterías y amplis de bajos y cosas así. Pero también queríamos utilizar guitarras eléctricas, no acústicas, para que mantenga algo de sonido punk-rock. No tenemos en mente añadir otros músicos, parte de la diversion y del reto viene por el hecho de intentar hacer música ruidosa y rítmica pero sin sección rítmica.
Andy: Two Pin Din nunca se convertirá en Five Pin Din.
Wilf: Y en directo habitualmente obtenemos una respuesta bastante Buena. aunque siempre hay al menos una persona que se acerca luego para decirnos que sería mejor con bajo y batería.

3.-¿Para cuando un primer disco? He escuchado las demos del myspace y están de puta madre.

Andy: tiene muy buen gusto, amable caballero.
Wilf: estamos muy ocupados grabando algunas canciones actualmente, así que esperemos que esté acabado antes de final de año.

4.-En youtube se te puede ver armado con la acústica.

Andy: eso fue simplemente algo impulsivo. Me había hecho con un macbook y quería probar la función de video.

5.-Se editarán esas canciones en ese formato?¿son para two pin din?

Andy: esas canciones son de una cassette que grabé solo hace varios años, Once Bitten Twice Removed. Es una colección de material grabado justo cuando me vine a vivir a Europa. Espero que se reedite pronto de algún modo. No estaban pensadas para Two Pin Din.

6.-Hiciste alguna cosa en el terreno musical entre Hissanol y two pin din?

Andy : mira la respuesta a la pregunta 5.

7.-Con Hissanol grabastes dos discos por correo?¿cómo surgió ese proyecto?

Andy: conozco a Scott Hendersson (la otra mitad de Hissanol) desde hace años. Me mudé a Europa cuando dejé Nomeansno, Scott y yo habíamos hablado varias veces sobre hacer algo juntos y aunque el tiempo no era un problema si que lo era el espacio. Un océano bastante grande nos separaba, al igual que una gran masa de tierra. El correo era nuestra única opción, no había nada de internet rápido en aquellos días.

8.-Hissanol toca muchos palos musicales, pero en su conjunto son discos muy marcianos.Te encuentras cómodo en parámetros tan anticomerciales?

Andy: Aunque parezca extraño sí me siento cómodo. Me gusta una canción pop bien hecha como a cualquiera pero cosas como The Pop Group o Throbbing Gristle tienen también su lugar en mi colección de cds!. Sin embargo, debo decir, que Wilf es mucho más retorcido que yo musicalmente.

9.-Volviendo un poco para tras, fuiste parte integrante de los legendarios Nomeansno y anteriormente con infamous scientists ¿cómo recuerdas aquellos tiempos?¿cuáles son tus discos favoritos?¿qué te parecen los que han grabado posteriormente?

Andy: esta pregunta es otra entrevista completa por si misma. Baste decir que disfruté todo el tiempo que estuve en Nomeansno con Rob, John y Craig y estoy muy orgulloso de lo que conseguimos juntos. También lo pasé en grande con The Infamous Scientists (incluso existe la posibilidad de una recopilación de los I-Scientistsalgún día...)

10.-Nos gustaría conocer un poco más a Andy Kerr ¿cúales son tus discos favoritos de siempre? Qué bandas actuales te gustan más? ¿cúales son tus películas y libros favoritos?

Wilf: mis discos favoritos de siempre... una pregunta difícil de responder ya que hay tantos discos fantásticos ahí fuera. Para comenzar:

Y tengo muchos favoritos más, realmente demasiados para hacer una lista, pero también me gusta escuchar viejo blues eléctrico, big band mambos, bandas sonoras de películas de los 50/60/70, dub, folk húngaro, western swing, jazz etíope, punk rock, boogaloo, cha-cha-chas, twangy beat, psychedelic soul, acid rock, ska, música hawaiana, surf, twist de Québec... y sigue...
Bandas actuales, me avergüenza decir que no les suelo prestar mucha atención. Les Halmas de Suiza y The Ex de Holanda son dos bandas que en directo me gustan mucho, pero para ser honesto, he tocado tantas veces en directo que no siempre me apetece ver bandas cuando tengo tiempo libre.
Libros y películas. Realmente no hay espacio suficiente para listarlas todas. Libros de Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, Alfred Bester, Cordwainer Smith, Mikhail Bulgakov entre otros muchos.
Y un montón de películas, otra vez demasiadas para hacer una lista. Comedias locas, películas de espías de los 60, cine negro, la vieja ciencia-ficción, las pelis de Carry On, spaghetti westerns, diferentes tipos de animación, etc...

1.What can you tell us about your new project?

Andy: Two Pin Din is two pals playing electric guitars and singing without a rhythm section. Mostly on Tuesday.
Wilf: Actually it's not so new, we've been doing it for 3 years or so.

2.Why only 2 guitars? Will you add more musicians in the future? how response the people in your live shows?

Andy: Why indeed. The other choice was a full band or an acoustic duo. Wilf and I opted for Plan C. Trying to make an unlikely setup of two electric guitars in a song format somehow work.
Wilf: We both thought it would be good to do something simple, and only 2 guitars means that we can rehearse at home using small amps so it's not too loud for the neighbours, and we don't need to use a van to transport drum kits and bass amps and such. But we also wanted to use electric guitars and not acoustics so that it still has a bit of a punk rock sound. We have no plans to add other musicians either, part of the fun and the challenge comes from trying to make music that is noisy and rhythmic but has no rhythm section.
Andy: Two Pin Din will never become Five Pin Din.
Wilf: And at live shows we mostly get a pretty good response, although there is always at least one person who comes up afterwards to say they think it would be better with bass & drums.

3.When will we have your first record? I’ve heard some demos in myspace and they’re fuckin’ brilliant

Andy: You have very good taste, kind sir.
Wilf: We are busy recording some songs at the moment, so hopefully that will be finished before the end of the year.

4.In youtube we can see you playing just an acoustic guitar...

Andy: That was completely a spur of the moment thing. I'd just got a macbook and wanted to try out the video function.
5.Will you publish those songs simply in acoustic format? Are they for two pin din?

Andy: Those songs are from a solo cassette of mine from several years back, Once Bitten Twice Removed. It's a collection of stuff I recorded when I first came over to live in Europe. I hope sometime soon to re-release it somehow. They are not intended for Two Pin Din.

6.Did you have any other musical project between hissanol and two pin din?

Andy: See answer to question 5.

7.With hissanol you recorded two records “through mail”..how did it come up?

Andy: I've known Scott Henderson (the other half of Hissanol) for years. I moved across to Europe when I left Nomeansno and Scott and I had often talked about doing something together and although time was not an issue, space definitely was. A rather large ocean seperating us and a large land mass as well. The post was our only option. No fast internet in those days.

8.With hissanol you played a wide range of musical styles and those hissanol records were quite strange and freaky, do you feel comfortable in such an uncommercial territory

Andy: Strangely enough, I do. I like a well crafted pop song as much as the next bloke but things like the Pop Group or Throbbing Gristle have their own places in my cd collection! It must be said, however, Wilf is much more musically bent than I am. ;-)

9.Going back in time, you played with the great nomeansno and previously with infamous scientists, what are your memories of those times? Which are your favourite recordings? And what do you think of their records after you left?

Andy: This is a whole other interview all together. Suffice to say I enjoyed all my time in Nomeansno with Rob, John and Craig and am very proud of what we accomplished together. Also I had I lot of fun in The Infamous Scientists too. (There's even a chance of an I-Sci's comp maybe coming out someday in the future...)

10.we’d like to know a bit more about Andy & Wif, which are your all-time fave records?,what about current bands, any favourite? And about books and movies…

Wilf: All-time fave records. A difficult question to answer simply as there are so many fantastic records out there. For a start;

and I have many more favourites, too many in fact to list, but I also like to listen to old electric blues, big band mambos, 50s/60s/70s film soundtracks, dub, Hungarian folk music, be-bop, Western swing, Ethiopian jazz, punk rock, boogaloo, cha-chas, twangy beat music, psychedelic soul, acid rock, ska, Hawaiian music, surf, Québecois twist...and so on.
Current bands, I'm ashamed to say I don't always pay so much attention to. Les Halmas from Switzerland & the Ex from Holland are two bands I really like live, but to be honest I've played so many gigs that I don't always feel like seeing bands when I have some free time.
& books and movies. Not really enough space to list them all. Books by Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, Alfred Bester, Cordwainer Smith, Mikhail Bulgakov amongst many others.
